A trip of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, will not be complete withoung tasting the local Taliwang Chicken. This typical dish is a favourite among both locals and visitors to the island. At first glance, Taliwang Chicken looks almost like the common grilled or fried chicken, simply covered with a spicy relish. Only after tasting it can we discern the difference.
Finally after around Mataram, we decided to try the Taliwang Chicken. Our choice is "Warung Taliwang Putri Duyung". This place is near a main road but not noisy here. So, lets eat!
Taliwang is simply the name of the sauce used in the preparation of the dish. The thing with Taliwang sauce is that no two places make it the exactly the same. Usually made with a proprietary blend of at least chili, salt, palm sugar, garlic, and terasi (fermented shrimp paste).
Most places selling Taliwang Chicken offer a set menu that includes 1 chicken, a basket rice, roasted peanuts, and the last plecing kangkung. Plecing Kangkung, very popular on Lombok as a daily dishes to eat together with rice. Plecing Kangkung consists of a boiled and served in a cold state and fresh shrimp with chili sauce, tomato, sprouts, nuts, and lime. The package price usually starts around 20,000 IDR.
1 set menu, let's eat! |
